Is Colored Leather the New Faux Fur?

While we all may have varied opinions on what is considered a staple item in our closets, few could argue the necessity of the quintessential leather jacket. While a classic black biker jacket can be pulled off by virtually anyone, adding a pop of color to our leathers delivers a bolder statement. We’ve noticed that this newly circulating trend has the same “it” factor as our brightly hued faux fur coats, but with a fresher and sleeker aesthetic.

You Need Color in Your Life:

Designers such as IRO, Ulla Johnson, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, and Khaite showcased leather in bold shapes and even bolder shades for FW19, and show attendees were donning the trend on the streets as well. The emergence of colorful leather — in a display of different styles and silhouettes – seems to be this Spring’s newest trend.

From what we saw, leather doesn’t come in just a skinny pant or a structured jacket, but also in a dress, a blouse, a must-have boot and pretty much everything in-between.

Go Vegan!

Some designers have also sought the animal-friendly option — vegan leather.  While the majority of vegan leathers are constructed from synthetic plastics, an increasing number of brands are opting for a plant-based substitute, using materials such as pineapple leaves and Pinatex.  Nanushka’s vegan leather puffer proved to be a front-row favorite as its style was seen on many of Fashion’s it-girls in a variety of shades.

Creative Layering: The Runway Trend That’s Ideal For Spring

Many trends originate on the runway via a trickle-down effect, while some arise purely out of practicality, and may even find themselves trickling up to the catwalk.
As we know, the transition from winter to spring can be a challenging time to get dressed due to its unpredictable weather patterns, and we often find ourselves needing to get creative for a solution. Sure enough, one of those very solutions was seen everywhere during Fashion Month in February from New York to Paris – and that was layering. Layering in early spring may be somewhat of a no-brainer, however, these were not your average layers, but rather turtlenecks under blouses, and trousers under dresses. This trend trickled both up and down, rearing its head both on the streets and the runway, inspiring us to tap into unconventional layering a little further. We took a look at a few different of the different ways this eccentric trend can be your new go-to.

Summer Preview

Ever purchased a new Spring/Summer piece that you’re just dying to wear but it’s not warm enough yet? One of our favorite layering tricks to employ is throwing a simple turtleneck under a dress or blouse, giving you the best of both worlds – fresh new style with added warmth.

Dress It Up or Down

This layering hack not only assists with us with volatile weather but creates outfit versatility. By layering a more elevated piece with an otherwise casual look, you can be ready to go from the coffee shop to an art opening, all with one simple shift.

Spice It Up

Coco Chanel once said, Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.”
With this trend, however, we give you permission to do the opposite. Sometimes adding just one piece of a different color palette or print can be that extra ingredient to turn an outfit from standard to stylish, and we encourage mixing patterns and silhouettes – there are no rules.
