The Inspiration Behind Zimmermann’s Dreamy Spring ‘19 Collection

Nicky and Simone Zimmerman, the sister duo behind their eponymous brand Zimmermann, were once like every other Australian girl — eagerly waiting to watch the weekly two hour soap opera Number 96.  For their Spring 2019 collection, Zimmermann was inspired by Number 96’s 70s themed costumes and its bold interpretation of style and sex.  While the show had its fair share of shoulder pads and big hair, Nicky reimagined the collection to exude boho-sex with a modern twist. Thus, infusing her Spring ‘19 looks with paisley, shift dresses, peekaboo cutouts and billowing lantern sleeves, and even including the name “Ninety-Six” in the majority of the pieces.

As usual, Zimmermann pulls inspiration from the past while also integrating modern trends, constructing her pieces to be distinctly feminine in style: putting an emphasis on detail, color, and prints.

We were loving the crop tops and low-rise pants worthy of Cher’s wardrobe from her Sonny days.

The spring collections emphasis on suiting — coordinated suits, tracksuits, linen and statement suits — help reach the epitome of 70s inspired trends, but with a modern interpretation.
